The Vice Provost for International Affairs and Global Strategies serves as the senior international officer for the Urbana campus and head of Illinois International. Additionally, the Vice Provost for International Affairs and Global Strategies has broad administrative oversight of the following interdisciplinary units, centers, and programs.

International Students and Scholar Services

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) serves our international population and campus units through advising, immigration services, programming, advocacy, and outreach.

International Safety and Security

The Office of International Safety and Security sets and maintains the standards and protocol for pre-departure training and on-going safety needs for those participating in international activities with the University on a 24/7 basis.

International Business Operations

International Business Operations (IBOPS) provides human resource, grant, and financial administrative services for the units, centers, and programs of Illinois International.

Shanghai Office

The Shanghai Office operates as a natural extension of the Illinois-China partnership and serves as a liaison for all the relevant university personnel, units, and colleges with a vested interest in developing the Illinois footprint in China.

Illinois Strategic International Partnerships (ISIP) facilitates, coordinates, negotiates and manages collaborative activities and partnerships with partner institutions and agencies based outside the United States.

Area Study Centers & Title VI National Resource Centers

Center for African Studies

The Center for African Studies (CAS) promotes the study of Africa by arranging visiting by African scholars, mentoring students, developing teaching aids, and organizing seminars, conferences, and symposia where people can exchange ideas in addition to off-campus teaching, curriculum development, and informational resources relating to the African continent.

Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies

The Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies (CEAPS) is devoted to the enhancement of campus teaching and learning on East Asia and to outreach programming on East Asia for educators, the public, and media and business professionals.

European Union Center

The European Union Center (EUC) serves as the focal point for teaching, research, and outreach on the European Union whose sponsored projects, affiliated faculty, academic programs, and outreach and public engagement activities foreground interdisciplinary, inclusivity, and international perspectives on Europe and Transatlantic Relations.

Center for Global Studies

The Center for Global Studies (CGS) seeks to promote and support innovative research to better understand global issues confronting the world’s populations and identify ways to cope with and resolve these challenges.

Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies

The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) fosters spaces of academic and cultural exchange between scholars, students, and regional K-14 instructors, with communities of the Americas.

Lemann Institute for Brazilian Studies

The Lemann Institute for Brazilian Studies promotes teaching and research about Brazil through fellowships to Illinois and Brazilian students at graduate and undergraduate levels; funding faculty research; organizing international conferences on Brazilian topics; and supporting cultural activities of all sorts.

Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center

The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center (REEEC) coordinates and promotes curricula, organizing diverse programming activities, supporting area research, and offering an interdisciplinary undergraduate major and minor as well as a master’s degree and graduate certificate program in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies.

Center for South Asian & Middle Eastern Studies

The Center for South Asian & Middle Eastern Studies (CSAMES) promotes research and scholarship on South Asia and the Middle East through academics, language studies, outreach, and the annual Turkish Studies Symposium and the Middle East and Islamic Studies Lecture Series.

Program in Arms Control & Domestic and International Security

The Program in Arms Control & Domestic and International Security (ACDIS) seeks to inform international security policy decision making and implementation through focused interdisciplinary research, thoughtful and objective analysis, and effective communication and teaching.

Women and Gender in Global Perspectives Program

The Women and Gender in Global Perspectives Program (WGGP) encourages and facilitates multi-disciplinary research, instruction, and service focused on human development and gender equity in international settings.
