Illinois Welcome Week

Every fall New Student Programs puts on Welcome Week to help you get to know campus better and introduce you to the numerous academic and social opportunities available. Events during Welcome Week include New Student Convocation, Illinois Sights and Sounds, and Quad Day. Check back on the Welcome Week website to see the final schedule and how you can access events remotely.

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is committed to providing culturally sensitive services of the highest quality. They serve the international population and campus units through advising, immigration services, programming, advocacy, and outreach. Visit the Life as an International Student webpage to explore campus resources that may be available to you remotely.


The Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR) seeks to improve campus climate by providing transformative learning experiences to the Illinois community that result in an appreciation for diversity and cross-cultural engagement. They offer a variety of programs, interactive classes, and workshops that provide tools that will allow students to develop the life skills needed to thrive in a diverse society. OIIR plans to offer many of these programs online, so regularly check the OIIR website for ways access them.

  • Global Engagement Lounge (GEL) - GEL is a unique place where you can meet other international and domestic students, enjoy interactive activities and transform your Illinois experience. All are welcome!
  • Intercultural Dialogue Series (iCU) - The goal of iCU is to provide opportunities for the domestic and international students to engage in meaningful interaction in small group settings.
  • Global Leaders: Orange and Blue Engagement (GLOBE) - GLOBE connects Blue members (current university students) with Orange members (new incoming students) and teams them up in small groups to participate in various activities and events throughout the semester.

Technology Services

Technology Services at Illinois is the provider of campus-wide computing, networking, storage, communications, and instructional technology services at the university. Visit the Technology Services website so learn how they can assist you remotely.

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center provides innovative outreach programming for students as well as consultation to individuals and groups on campus with the goal of facilitating the adjustment and success of international students during their time at the University of Illinois. Individual therapy meetings with counselors and group therapy options are also available to assist with challenges that might affect academic and personal success of international students, especially when familiar support systems may not be available. Office of the Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) implements a variety of programs and services to assist and support students in achieving academic and personal success. The Office provides important educational and developmental opportunities, serves as student advocates, empowers students to be successful, and promotes students' rights and responsibilities.

University Bursar

Student Health Insurance

If you choose to waive Illinois Student Health Insurance, follow the instructions on the Opting Out webpage. If you choose Illinois Student Health Insurance, the Student Health Insurance office is available to help you feel comfortable and empowered with your coverage.


Illinois Undergraduate International Student Orientation

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) hosts an orientation for all incoming international students. While much of the content in the orientation is geared toward students who will be coming to campus this fall, you are encouraged to attend the Question and Answer (Q&A) sessions to familiarize yourself with Illinois units, services, and resources, and ask questions of representatives from across campus departments. More information will be available soon.
