Matt Rosenstein became Director of Global Education and Training (GET) in 2015. During Matt’s tenure, the Shanghai Office and the Intensive English Institute became a part of GET. Prior to joining GET, from 2010-2015 he was Senior Associate Director of the European Union Center (EUC) at the University of Illinois. Rosenstein also served as EUC’s Director of Graduate Studies for the Master of Arts degree program in EU Studies. Previously, Rosenstein was Associate Director of the Program in Arms Control, Disarmament and International Security (ACDIS) at Illinois from 2001-2010. He holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a B.A. degree from Duke University.

Grant Brewer

Grant has been a member of the Illinois International team since 2011. Grant works to grow the mission of GET and IEI, and assists in administration of the Shanghai Office. Grant also oversees the Intensive English Institute (IEI) by providing day to day leadership. Previously, Grant was the Assistant Director for Financial Management in Illinois International Business Operations (IBOPS), where he helped manage fiscal, operational, and business activities for all units under Illinois International. Prior to that role, Grant was an International Training Coordinator at GET, where he helped facilitate educational and training programs for international executives.

Matt joined GET in 2010 as an Office Support Associate, and he has since worked as a program coordinator and now is the Assistant Director of GET. As the Assistant Director, Matt oversees daily offices operations and is responsible for creating proposals, designing educational training programs, finding new partners, and maintaining relationships with current partners. As a coordinator, Matt has worked with executives from major companies, like the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China; officials from government offices such as the Ministry of Education of Croatia; and both high school and college students from all around the world. Matt holds a M.Ed in Global Studies in Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Teresa was born, raised and is still living in the Champaign Area. She is a 1983 graduate of Champaign Central High School and received her Bachelor of Science in Business from Eastern Illinois University in May 2001. Teresa has one daughter, Shawna Barbee, who is the most precious part of her life.

Teresa began her 30th year of service with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in August of 2018. Her career began as a Clerk Typist III at Division of Specialized Care for Children. She soon advanced to Staff Secretary within a year. After receiving her B.S., she was hired as a Coordinator of Payment Operations with University Payables. In January 2015, she moved to Illinois International as a Business Administrative Associate, then moved to Global Education and Training as Business Manager. In July of 2018, she received a promotion to Assistant Director of Business Operations. In addition to her active role at the University, she is an Independent Sales Representative for Avon Products Inc. (15 years) and a tax preparer during tax season every year.

Teresa is best known for bleeding orange and blue for Fighting Illini Football and Basketball. She is an active member of the Illini Quarterback Club and Rebounders Club. Her family has a long history of being Illini Fans. Additionally, she is one of the most die-hard Cardinal Fans around. She actually had a “Fred Bird” pillow pet in the back window of her red and white mustang.

What Teresa truly enjoys most in life is helping others. Her yearly volunteer activities include:

Nashma Carrera

Program Manager, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology Gifted Student Program

Nashma Carrera is the Program Manager for the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Gifted Student Program (KGSP) under the Global Education and Training unit of Illinois International. She oversees the academic and logistical aspects of the FYI program and support KGSP students in all aspects of their academic success while at Illinois.

She completed her B.S. in Criminology from University of Central Florida, B.A .in International Affairs and M.S. in Public History with a minor in Cultural Anthropology from Florida State University, and M.A. in US Folklore and Ethnomusicology from University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Before starting her EFL teaching career overseas (2010), she worked and volunteered at the Center for Traditional Music and Dance in New York City as a fieldwork researcher, community cultural initiatives assistant and translator/interpreter. Finally, in 2010, Nashma started teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and Social Sciences abroad; from 2010 to 2014 in Oman, 2014 to 2015 in Morocco and 2015 to 2018 in both China (summer trainings) and United Arab Emirates.

Andrea joined the staff of Global Education and Training (GET) in 2017 after graduating with her M.S. in Global Studies and International Relations at Northeastern University in Boston. At GET, Andrea coordinates training programs for professionals and students from proposal to implementation and evaluation. She has led customized programs ranging from a one-week engineering education program for students and university administrators to a nine-month finance program for bankers. Previously, Andrea coordinated GLOBE, an Illinois program aimed at domestic-international student integration. She has also worked in international education in Boston, MA, and Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Her Alma Mater is the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she received her dual-degree B.F.A. in Dance and B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature.

Meng (Monica) joined Global Education and Training (GET) in 2017 as a Program Specialist. She has developed and implemented educational and training programs for hundreds of business executives, professors, and undergraduates. The program types include long term specialized programs for administrators, summer school programs for undergraduates, and short-term customized programs for international business executives. She has created and managed both GET WeChat and Weibo (Chinese Twitter) social media platforms, currently with 700 plus followers on WeChat and over 10000 views for many Sina Webo posts, which have effectively increased the visibility and impact of GET’s efforts in China.

Prior to joining GET, she was a graduate student in East Asian Languages and Cultures at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with strong academic training in both quantitative and qualitative research. She became passionate about international teaching and learning after six years of teaching Chinese language and culture as well as Business Chinese at multiple universities in the United States since 2010.

Having taught more than a thousand of students over the years trained her to be efficient in cross-cultural communication with a diverse population, easily approachable, flexible and patient. She holds an M.A. degree in Language Pedagogy from Indiana University Bloomington and a B.A. degree in Teaching Chinese as a second language from Beijing Language and Culture University.

Robert Marinelli

Rob Marinelli joined GET in 2009, where he began developing professional exchange programs, primarily for senior Chinese executives and administrators. Currently Rob oversees many of GET’s flagship training programs for China’s top banks. In this role, Rob works closely with the University of Illinois faculty members, GET team members and graduate students, and community volunteers to ensure each visitor experiences the best of the University of Illinois and state of Illinois. Supporting academic and educational exchange within the International arena for nearly decade, Rob has cultivated his passion for leadership development, and he believes that educational and intercultural exchange are essential to fostering understanding and cooperation across cultures.

At GET, Rob has facilitated programing initiatives for executives and students from China, South Korea, Colombia and Argentina, and supports ongoing development initiatives in areas of proposal development, grant writing, and program implementation. Rob earned his B.A. in management at the University of Illinois at Springfield and was a member of the Illinois Air National Guard for nine years. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, and sharing a great meal with friends new and old.

Bridget Sullivan

Bridget joined the Global Education and Training (GET) team in August 2018. As the Communications Coordinator for GET, she creates and maintains print and electronic communication materials, oversees the marketing and outreach efforts for new and established programs, and coordinates the use of social media platforms. Bridget also collaborates closely with other communications teams within Illinois International Programs to develop impactful stories related to international training programs. She earned her B.A. in Strategic Communications from Miami University and her M.A.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from Virginia Tech. Before coming to Illinois, Bridget was the editorial assistant for About Campus, an international higher education publication.
