Reitumetse Obakeng Mabokela is the Vice Provost for International Affairs and Global Strategies (VPIAGS) and Professor of Comparative and International Higher Education. Prior to joining the University of Illinois, she served as the Assistant Dean for International Studies in the College of Education and Professor of Higher Education in the Department of Educational Administration at Michigan State University. Originally from South Africa, she received her BA in Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She pursued and graduated with a Master’s in Labor & Industrial Relations and Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A former Fulbright New Century Scholar (2006), Professor Mabokela’s research examines experiences of marginalized populations and aims to inform institutional policies that affect these groups within institutions of higher education. She has devoted a significant part of her career studying higher education issues in developing and transitional countries. She is the author, co-author, editor or co-editor of seven books and has published extensively in national and international journals.

Julie joined Illinois International in July 2015 as Executive Director for Administration and Management. In this position she provides leadership, direction and oversight to the administrative services within the Executive Office, the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) and the Office of Illinois Abroad and Global Exchange. Prior to joining Illinois International, Julie was director of ISSS, where she was responsible for the leadership and overall management of the office. Julie earned her B.A. in Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies and M.Ed. in Counseling and Human Development with an emphasis on bilingual counseling, both from the University of Iowa.

Tim Barnes joined Illinois International in 1998, and has worked in the offices of Overseas Projects and Foreign Visitors (OPFV), East Asian and Pacific Exchange Programs (EAEP), and Institutional and Faculty International Collaboration (IFIC) prior to assuming his current position as director of Illinois Strategic International Partnerships (ISIP). Tim now manages all formal institutional linkages between the Urbana-Champaign campus and international partners, as well as fostering increased international engagement among faculty and serving as the campus liaison officer for the Fulbright Senior Scholar program.

Bridget joined Illinois International in January 2015. Over the years, she has acquired over 15 years of administrative experience along with 6 years of event coordination and hospitality. Bridget has previously worked with the Illini Union Event Services, the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, and the Technology Entrepreneur Center. As an assistant to the Director of the Global Communications and Protocol unit, she handles the stewardship and fundraising efforts in addition to providing administrative support.

Amy joined the University in 2008 and brings with her 20 years of Administrative and Event Planning experience. She serves as the Assistant to the Vice Provost for International Affairs and Global Strategies (VPIAGS). She holds an executive leadership position in the Office of Illinois International Programs. As a member of the executive team, Amy directs all aspects of general operations and administration of the office.

Jill joined Illinois International as an Office Support Associate in May 2014. Before joining Illinois International, Jill was an H&R Block Office Manager for 10 years. Jill received her B.A. in Business Administrations from DeVry University of Tinley Park in 2007. She is the main contact for room reservations within several Illinois International buildings, assists human resources with new hire and termination processing, and supports the Illinois International Office Manager.

Paul joined Illinois International in 1990. As a Network Specialist, he provides day-to-day IT support to Illinois International and other units across campus. Paul also works closely with the University’s Technology Services Department. Paul brings 20 years of experience to his position, having developed some of the first “International Programs and Studies” web pages and the International Studies network.

Marta has been serving as the Coordinator for Global Communication since July 2017. As Coordinator for Global Communication, she is the brand steward, webmaster, and communications project manager for Illinois International and many of its sub-units. Marta first joined Illinois International as a Digital Communications Specialist in June 2015, where she promoted Illinois International through content creation for a variety of multimedia platforms, including web, print, video, and social media. Prior to joining Illinois International, she worked in communications and outreach for several non-profit organizations in Japan, India, and the United States. Marta brings with her a strong background and enthusiasm for all things international. Although a native of Illinois, she spent many years living and studying in Japan. Marta earned her B.A. in Economics and East Asian Studies from Knox College.

Erica joined Illinois International as the International Visitor and Protocol Specialist at Illinois Strategic International Partnerships (ISIP) in 2017. She coordinates campus visits for delegations from foreign universities, diplomatic and foreign service personnel, and she also develops and maintains an interactive inventory of global engagement activities. Prior to working for ISIP, Erica worked as a translator at Global Education and Training, where she facilitated communication between international executives and University of Illinois faculty and administrators. Erica holds an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and a B.A. in English from Tianjin Normal University in China.
